The White Dorper is a true “Global Climate Change Sheep” that will not only survive but is able to thrive in a global warming created environment, ie. drought conditions.
With the added “Animal Welfare” benefits of no mulesing, no shearing or crutching, and they have a strong resistance to internal parasites, fly strike, lice and footrot.
“Environmentally Friendly” as they do not require the use of chemicals or growth promotents to enhance production performance.
“Farmer Friendly” because they have a much lower cost of production and a much higher performance relative to other breeds at a sustainable level of production. There is no need for capital to be tied up in expensive infrastructure, (shearing sheds etc.)
They are “Consumer Satisfaction Guarantee” because of their lean, tender, juicy meat that can be produced under an organic type production system. The Doper has arrived as a genuine alternative sheep breed that has lifted gross margins for farmers and has caught the attention of lot feeders who can finish them early, processors who appreciate their high carcase yield and genuine consumer acceptance.
With ever increasing costs and lack of experienced labour availability the low input – high output Dorper is becoming a much more acceptable alternative to sheep farmers and hobby farmers alike.
At “DELTA DORPERS” we can offer individually structured alternatives to those of you who would like to create a more economical return from your land without any extra outlay on farm infrastructure.
We can visit your property and after discussion with you on what you would like to achieve (given your available resources) we can then offer an individual package to suit you and that could either be on a forward contract price or on a profit share type basis.
At “DELTA DORPERS” our stud selection focus is from a commercial point of view therefore our aim is for Fertility, Performance and Structure as we believe that these three traits have the greatest impact on commercial profitability.
Fertility is the main profit driver in any commercial production system therefore it is imperative that this should be paramount in animal selection. A ram’s libido, serving capacity, reproductive potency, and a ewe’s conception rates, milk production, her mothering ability and lamb survival to weaning all have a major impact on overall profitability.
Performance (measured in weight gain per days of age) is also important because it related directly to kilos of meat produced per hectare. The more performance the quicker the turnoff of the lambs at a marketable weight = the less costs = more profit.
Structure (physical soundness) of the animal is very important because it relates directly to an animal’s ability to travel to feed, to breed and for its longevity or (its effective productive lifespan) and is equally important for both rams and ewes.
At “DELTA DORPERS” our aim is to develop strong, long term, viable working relationships with farmers in a win / win structured quality lamb production program. We have the Genetics, Experience and Individually Structured packages that will suit larger farms as well as the hobby farmer type programs.
We assist with all aspects of production and marketing to create an economy of scale that will assist everyone involved to reduce their costs of production and increase profits.
Give us a call and we can show you why it is not only sensible to breed white dorper sheep but also environmentally sound, they have sustainable production performance, are financially profitable and personally very rewarding to work with.
